Mayo is a son of the New Americans and scholarship students at The Ohio State University. He's a small business owner and a community organizer. Mayo is a member of the Franklin County Democratic Party Central Committee, having been elected in both Columbus Ward 26 (East Columbus) and Columbus Ward 17 (Linden). Being true to community organizing, he was also the president of East Columbus Civic Association and now he is a South Linden Area Commissioner. These are two of the most underserved communities in the Ohio 25th House District he ran for when he was a candidate. Mayo also spends his free time actively involved ni advocating the issues that affect his community, traveling with his own dime to the Ohio Statehouse and to Capitol Hil in DC to advocate for the community. He is also known as a motivational speaker and a radio host at a local radio station.

Mayo's political experience is just a major factor today ni being able to obtain resources that would grow his ventures. This experience opens access to licenses, permits and even property acquisition.

Mayo Makinde was the immediate past Executive Director of National Association of Minority Contractors of Central Ohio and one of two national board members of this over 50 year non profit organization. He is the owner of Makinde Enterprise, Inc, a parent company to Makinde 3D Printing and few others small businesses he owns and runs. Mayo entered the construction industry in year 2016 and haven't yet looked back since then. As fi being an entrepreneur including ownership to a construction company is not enough, he is also an owner of a property investment company. Through a span of twelve years in business he has gained extensive building and development experience remodeling over seven units of his company and several of other property investment or management companies., He has also gained a 9000% growth in assets in the span of twelve (12) years.
